Support for Those Who Serve

The nature of your work demands a level of mental and physical resilience that few can truly understand.

You face unique challenges every day, from managing high-stress environments to dealing with the aftermath of critical incidents. These experiences can take a toll on anyone.

I provide straightforward, effective support to help you handle these pressures, ensuring you remain sharp and well, both on the job and at home.

High Stress

Constant high-alert situations that require split-second decision-making can lead to chronic stress, affecting both your professional performance and personal life.

Emotional Fatigue

Repeated exposure to traumatic events can result in compassion fatigue or burnout, making it hard to connect with others or find joy in your work.

Physical Symptoms

Stress and fatigue often manifest physically—trouble sleeping, headaches, or more severe health issues—all of which can be signs that it’s time to seek support.

Isolation

Feeling like no one else understands your experiences can lead to isolation, even when surrounded by colleagues and loved ones.

Individual Counseling

You don’t have to carry it all alone

As a first responder or the loved one of someone who serves, you’re trained to stay calm in the chaos. But behind that composure can be unprocessed stress, trauma, or emotional fatigue that takes a toll on your daily life, your relationships, and your sense of self.

At Weather The Storm Counseling, individual therapy offers a private, judgment-free space where you can lay it down safely and honestly. Together, we’ll work to uncover what’s weighing you down, clarify what you need, and take real steps toward healing and growth.

What to expect

Individual therapy is tailored to your specific needs and goals. We may explore topics like:

• Work-related trauma or critical incidents

• Anxiety

• Depression

• Emotional overwhelm

• Relationship strain

• Communication breakdowns

• Grief, guilt

• Career or life transitions

• Burnout and stress management

Our work together will move at your pace, grounded in evidence-based, trauma-informed, and strengths-based practices. This is your space to be heard, to be honest, and to start feeling like yourself again.

“I can’t say enough about Rachel and the impact she’s had on my life. As a mental health specialist who truly understands the unique challenges that first responders face, she creates a safe, supportive space to be real, open, and honest.

Her compassion, insight, and ability to connect are unmatched. If you are a first responder struggling in silence, Rachel is someone who truly gets it—and more importantly, knows how to help. “

Therapy FAQs

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or emotionally exhausted, therapy can help. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit. Many first responders and their loved ones find that having a safe space to talk and process can create real clarity and relief.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. Everything you share in therapy is private and protected by law, with a few exceptions related to safety. I take confidentiality seriously and create a secure space where you can speak freely.  Laws protect the privacy of all communications between a client and a therapist. In most situations I can only release information about your treatment to others if you sign a written authorization. There are some situations where I am permitted or required to disclose information either with or without your consent or authorization. If you have questions about specific situations, please reach out and I can clarify anything for you.

Will I receive a diagnosis?

I understand there is a fear and stigma of being "labeled" or having a "permanent diagnosis." Insurance companies require a diagnosis in order for me to file your claims. I promise you that a mental health diagnosis is not "permanent" and it typically changes throughout treatment as you continue to heal. If receiving a diagnosis is a concern for you, let's chat about it!

How often do we meet?

Most clients meet weekly or biweekly. Frequency is adjusted based on your needs. I will work with you to create a plan that feels supportive, not overwhelming.

Do you only work with first responders?

Yes. I specialize in supporting first responders and family members of first responders.

Can I request an appointment without contacting you first?

Please contact me directly before requesting an appointment. I check in with each potential client

to make sure I am able to provide the requested services before scheduling.

Do you accept insurance?

I am in network with UHC/UBH, UMR, Optum, Aetna, Medical Mutual, OSU, Molina,

CareSource, EAP, and private pay.

It is important that you verify with your insurance provider

what services will be covered. Coverage varies by plan.

Sometimes, even though I am in-network with a specific insurance company doesn’t mean services will always be covered.

Reach out with any questions about coverage.

Why do I have to provide credit card information?

Prior to your first appointment, you will be required to enter an active credit card to keep on file.

Your card will not be charged unless you have a balance to your account.

If you have not added an active card to your SimplePractice account, your therapist will ask for one at the start of your

initial appointment. This policy is enforced and has been put in place to ensure your therapist is

compensated for services rendered.

If there is an accidental charge or you are charged an incorrect amount, please bring it to my

attention and it will be resolved as quickly as possible.

Do you provide services virtually or in person?

I offer both in-person and virtual appointments - distance should not be a barrier to services! I am licensed to work with clients in Ohio.

What should I expect during my first session?

The first session is the intake session. During your initial appointment, I will start by going over intake paperwork, confidentiality, and answer any questions or concerns you may have.

The rest of the session will be us getting to know each other! I will ask about your presenting concerns, reasons for seeking services, and treatment goals you may have. I will never force you to share any information you are not ready to bring up.

Can you provide with disability/FMLA/or ESA (Emotional Support Animal) paperwork?

I am unable to provide clients with ESA letters. I am willing to fill out FMLA paperwork, however, I have some requirements before I will agree to do so.

I will agree to fill out FMLA paperwork if a client has been meeting with me on a regular basis for at least 90 days and continues to meet on a regular basis after the paperwork is provided.

Do you provide faith-based services?

I do not specialize or provide faith-based services. I respect all spiritual and religious beliefs and welcome clients from all faith and religious backgrounds.
